I had seen this book being read and reviewed on Goodreads and wanted to give it a try. A virgin who falls in love with the male escort she had hired to take her virginity seemed like an easy and enjoyable romance book to read plus it was free to download from Amazon, so why the hell not.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this book and I really enjoyed it. The story line could be deemed as quite cliche, but it was so well written it stood out amongst others that are similar. I read this in one sitting and it only took a couple of hours.

Lori, the female lead in this story is a 26 year old virgin who decided to hire a male escort to take her virginity. Standard thing to do right? I am all for women and men even using these types of services so the story line itself wasn’t shocking to me.

Lori came across as very independent, confident and successful throughout the book, which is what made me love her. Aint’ nobody got time for a wet drip. Well… not in that sense. It made me question why she would feel the need to hire an escort to take her virginity. At one brief part of the book it was said that she traveled to Hong Kong alone for four weeks for research for her new book and attend an event. That takes some guts to do that so why would it have been so challenging for her to have slept with someone. Everyone is different I guess.

I loved how the author opened with the first chapter where we straight away met both characters, understood where the story was going and then bang (literally) straight into chapter two where the journey began. I hate it when the suspense is dragged out, but that certainly wasn’t the case here.

The growing relationship was well thought through between Lori and Anders (the hot, bald escort) and had me rooting for them from the very start. There were some points where I was literally screaming for them to admit their true feelings to each other and just when I thought they were.. well it simply didn’t happen. Eventually it does and I did enjoy the ending although felt another chapter may have helped as it did feel a little rushed to me.

I would definitely recommend this book to any who likes the following:

A strong lead female character
A caring, sexy and non-abrasive male
Sexy, stimulating erotica that felt ‘normal’ and not extreme
An addictive story where you can’t wait to see how it turns out
HEA

This book was heavy on sex and light on plot. I guess given the title and description it was to be expected but I'm rather new to reading romance and I'm never sure how to tell before actually reading a book how much sex is involved versus plot.

The basic concept of this book is that a romance writer who has never had sex hires a male escort to take her virginity. Obviously they fall in love. Although it's a trite concept and much of the time nothing else happens, there are some parts in the middle where the story gets interesting and things other than sex happen. My biggest gripe is that the author kind of glosses over these parts and there's a lot of exposition rather than scenes. I think that has something to do with a romance writing rule about keeping the action centered on the two main characters and not letting them cheat on each other. Again, I'm new to reading romance and I can't say that I really like the genre so far, so I'm trying to rate this book in the context of the genre without being too judgmental just because it's not my cup of tea but I decided to try it out anyway.

For the most part the book was well-written and it was a quick, sometimes fun read. I think an editor would be useful because there were quite a few grammatical errors and typos. A couple of the sex scenes were steamy but most seemed weird to me-- stilted, forced and repetitive-- but I'm not good at judging them because I don't read it often... it's just how it came across to me as a reader unfamiliar with the genre. The writing that wasn't about sex was much better and more realistic in my opinion.

Sometimes the narrator went into too many internal monologues and made obvious comparisons to Pretty Woman or really strong judgments about sex workers that I thought were way too preachy or obvious for a novel. I thought it was hypocritical to employ the services of a sex worker and then judge that, but I guess the over- the- top point was that men do this in the reverse all the time. Still, the narrator didn't just make judgments about her particular sex worker but all of them in general and even female sex workers which I thought went against the point she was trying to make. I didn't see the point of moralizing in a book like this and found those parts sometimes annoying, sometimes laughable but always distracting.

Overall this was a rather fun quick read but it's not very thought provoking or a classic or anything like that. If you like romance and especially very sexy romance then you will probably enjoy this book. I enjoyed it a bit more than I thought I would so there's that. (less)
