It's hard to find words that adequately express how refreshing it was to read a book with historical depth and integrity. Not only was it historical, but it was sweet, tender, and full of thrills...passion. Most every reader can, in some way, identify with various aspects of the story. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this book. I haven't had the chance to sit down and read a fiction book (and a good one at that) in a long time. I have two small children at home; so I don't have extra time to read on a regular basis. HOWEVER, I picked up The Road to Deer Run and I couldn't put it down. It was absolutely fantastic! I was hooked after the first five pages. It was juicy. Heartwarming. Full of joy. Full of tears. Love. Romance. Everything that should be in a good book, was in there. I would give this ten stars, but I'm only allowed five.

I LOVED this book...couldn't put it down! It's an absolute must-read. I've already purchased several copies and have handed them out to friends and family. It's just that GOOD! I can't wait for the sequel!
Mary Thomsen is a young Colonial woman who has lost a beloved brother to the Revolutionary War; Daniel Lowe is a British solider fighting for the enemy, but when Mary finds him wounded in the woods, one of the most beautiful love stories I've ever read begins to develop. Elaine Marie Cooper has a lovely, gentle voice and she tells a powerful story about love and overcoming adversity through faith. You will fall in love with the Thomsen family and all the wonderful characters. They will wrench your heart and make you smile and bring tears to your eyes. This is story that will stay in your heart long after you finish the last page. I LOVED IT!

He's been taken captive by the colonials fighting the Revolutionary War but sees his chance to escape and takes it. Near death, he hides in a thicket only to be found by a local maiden, Mary Thomsen, who tends to him as any angel would. This story takes one back to the era of harsh winters, log cabins, and small pox epidemics. The reader celebrates the efforts of the Thomsen family to stock up for the winter and the sadness when news from the war is not good. The book is the first of a trilogy and I look forward to reading the next two.
